I think I am killing Blog Fresno.... I find that I just don't have time to keep this blog up. This doesn't mean that there isn't going to be anymore blogging about Fresno but it will be a subset of my main blog. So if you want to read my Fresno musings just pop over to the NerdFamily Blog!

The Fresno Bee Got it Right!

A couple of months agao I saw Mediterranean Grill listed in the People's Choice insert in the Bee. My friend and I even tried to go there for dinner but it closes by 2:30. So today I got a chance to try Mediterrean Grill for lunch. I loved it!!! For all those who know me, I am very hard to please in the restuarant arena. I mean if I am going to pay for it, it better be better than mine;).

Mediterranean Grill totally fits that bill. I ordered their Lebanese Chicken & Rice. The chicken comes with the yummiest garlic saice. Normally I am not a big sauce fan out because it is usually heavy and either overly salty or sweet. But I do have to say that sauce is what makes a good dish because it is all about layering flavors. Well, this was delightful!!! The sauce was a bit spicy and creamy with a hit of acid to brighten it all up. The chicken and rice was also served with a Fattoush Salad. That was great!!! It is fresh and just great. It is also a lot of food. I ate half of everything for a large lunch and then ate the salad with dinner. The rice and chicken will make a good lunch tomorrow. So it is definately worth the little over $9 it cost.

So if you are over by the Office Depot and Fresno Community Hospital, you have to try Mediterrean Grill!!!

Downtown, Parking, and Thrift Stores

I commented the other day on a blog post about the fact that paying for parking is a problem (in my opinion). A nice commenter (Joe Moore) put together a great plan for a day of thrifting and fun all with free parking! I totally putting this plan into action soon and maybe with a few friends who have also been wanting to go to thrift stores! So what stops you from going downtown? Is it the parking?

Wordless Wednesday: Old Buildings

This is a picture I took awhile ago on the Fulton Mall. I love the beauty of the old buildings and it grieves me that so many people in Fresno have never seen them. I know that this is a problem in many cities and in their downtown areas. I would love for there to be a walking tour downtown that talks about the history of these buildings!

Rick Bentley Broke My Heart

So Rick Bentley had a piece on one of my favorites, Anthony Head. Normally I like Bentley's pieces but this time he really let me down. But he obviously doesn't understand Buffy nor Buffy fans. To start with he said that Giles was a slayer. Slayers are always chicks. Giles was a watcher. Then he seems to not understand the breadth of Buffy fandom. Even if I wasn't a sucker for an Authurian piece (which I am) I would totally tune in to see the beloved Giles.

My last bone of contention is in the list of thing Anthony Head has done. Part of the reason this is so dissapointing is that it prove that we don't watch the same tv. Head didn't star in Doctor Who but guested in the show. And MI-5, which was a great show, was on Head's resume for multiple episodes.

Local Boy, Local Music, Local Fun

HyeFest 2009

This Friday and Saturday (June 5-6) is the Armenian Festival down at Fulton Mall. There will be food and entertainment! It sounds like a great time.

Fulton Mall Farmer's Market

Today I got to go to the new farmer's market that is held on the Fulton Mall. It goes from 10am-12pm on Wednesdays and Fridays. I was very excited because this is actually a non-nap, non-obligated time in my schedule. I liked it. I parked down by Long's on Fulton and it a little bit of a walk (I could have parked closer). There weren't a lot of booths but they had grear deals.

Zucchini was only 50 cents a pound here and looked yummy. I got a few for us over here at the NerdFamily. Now, I will admit that this is one of my favorite stands over at the Fulton farmer's market too. I got green beans and eggplant here too.

Then look at these flowers! They are only $4 a bouquet. The Sunflowers were $3 a bunch. They also had sweet pea blossoms too!

These kind of deals you will not get at the Clovis Market. Go check it out and let me know what you think!

I got a link to all the great deals over at Sierra Vista Mall. My favorite is Free Hot Dog on a Stick on June 15th. It is 1 per person from 5pm-8pm. Yummy!

Small Town

Fresno and Clovis really are small towns. You end up knowing people everywhere and that is something I can't decide if I love or hate. I saw on Twitter Sierra Vista Mall denying any blame for making Justin Willis sick. I went to school with Justin so I had to check out this piece;).

Funnel Cake/Lemonade Coupon

I got a great coupon from the Sierra Vista Mall's Twitter. It is for a free lemonade with the purchase of Funnel Cake Sticks at Hot Dog on a Stick. I didn't even know that I could get Funnel Cake Sticks!

$29.4 Million

That is what is costs to buy a school. That is in essence what the Jordan family has done. A family that has never been to CSU Fresno but know a retired professor decided to donate $29.4 million dollars to the Ag Sciences and Technology school. Now it is being renamed. Is it obvious to anyone else that this family/trust was just shopping for a legacy? Fresno State, I guess that this means we all know what you are and that we are just settling on a price.

The money will probably do some good (if we can keep it away from the lawsuit settlement payouts) but the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Don't tell me this is how it is done because I don't care. I don't know why it bothers me so but it does.

Vintage Days are Here!!!

This weekend is Vintage Days over at Fresno State! They have craft booths and food booths. They even have free kids activities! This runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Things don't get going until 10 in the morning. Go get details and check it out.

Tea Party Time!

The Tea Party is coming up tomorrow! I found out that it is totally free to attend. The SaveMart Center isn't even charging for parking! Also, there are going to be bounce houses and face painting for the kids. I was a little shocked that the Bee said that organizers are expecting over 1000. Only? So go check it out and let's get the numbers up!

Announcing...

Mike Oz over at the Beehive announced some of the concerts coming to this years Fresno Fair! One of which is....



MC Hammer! I remember waiting with my stepdad for this video to premiere on tv. I loved MC Hammer but that was pre-Death Row records (gansta). So that makes me ask what is going to be in that concert? I would take some of kids to the nice Hammer but not the hard-core one.

But go see who else is coming to the Fair!
