Small Town

Fresno and Clovis really are small towns. You end up knowing people everywhere and that is something I can't decide if I love or hate. I saw on Twitter Sierra Vista Mall denying any blame for making Justin Willis sick. I went to school with Justin so I had to check out this piece;).

Separately, if you want something to do this weekend go check out the Burger Flipping Contesting in Clovis tomorrow!

Tea Party Time!

The Tea Party is coming up tomorrow! I found out that it is totally free to attend. The SaveMart Center isn't even charging for parking! Also, there are going to be bounce houses and face painting for the kids. I was a little shocked that the Bee said that organizers are expecting over 1000. Only? So go check it out and let's get the numbers up!

Announcing...

Mike Oz over at the Beehive announced some of the concerts coming to this years Fresno Fair! One of which is....

MC Hammer! I remember waiting with my stepdad for this video to premiere on tv. I loved MC Hammer but that was pre-Death Row records (gansta). So that makes me ask what is going to be in that concert? I would take some of kids to the nice Hammer but not the hard-core one.

But go see who else is coming to the Fair!

Christmas Tree Lane

Anyone who has been in Fresno very long knows that Christmas Tree Lane is a local mainstay with beautiful homes decorated very elaborately for Christmas. One of my own memories of Christmas Tree Lane was caroling with my 3rd grade Brownie Troop in a little shelter/box that was set up.

Christmas Tree Lane is actually Van Ness from Shields to Shaw avenue (car traffic travels north). This year it runs from December 2, 2008-December 28, 2008. The walk dates this year are Tuesday December 2nd and Wednesday December 10th.

We at the NerdFamily prefer doing the walking nights where we park at Fig Garden. You can then take a bus (with a small fee) that will drop you off at the Shields end and you walk back to your car. But if you are driving, please consider your route carefully. If you need to flip a u-turn you might be waiting a while.

If you need more information you can go to the Fig Garden site on Christmas Tree Lane. The history is really interesting.

Cars, Cars Everywhere

NerdDad and I did go to the Men Who Cook event at the Fresno Art Museum but this is the crux of the event for us: to many people and cars. It was an event planner's dream with lots of people and not as much food. I have heard the key to this is getting there right at 6pm but we got there closer to 6:30. You walked in the courtyard and saw some nice paintings and then went over to the front and they had all the booths there. It was pretty crowded. I had expected to see a little more local celebrity but it was fine. I did find it hard to believe that these guys did all the food when they kept saying that someone was bringing out more food (an overheard statement at many booths). Honestly, we perused around and then went out to dinner;). But before we left, I had to try Bill McEwen's (from the Bee) dessert. He had made a public call for recipes in his column a couple weeks ago so I was anxious to try out the winner. I have to say I was disappointed. They were very cute looking sugar cookies shaped like palettes with M&M's glued on with icing. They were ok sugar cookies. Bill, email me and I will help you out next year!

So will we go again, I am not sure. But now I know what it is all about!
